Stroma Building Control, in line with most Local Authorities, will no longer accept applications for foundation designs that propose metal screw piles.
This is due to the piling contractors being unable to justify the installed piles in terms of loadings and suitability. Many companies have standard ‘lab’ design tests, which, in theory, demonstrate adequacy but are not relevant to individual site conditions or method of installation. There is also a lack of site testing that can be completed to demonstrate that the installed piles meet the requirements of the model testing reports.
If you have any ongoing projects with Stroma Building Control that are not complete and are using screw piles that have not been approved by our Structural Engineers, please contact us as soon as possible.
