Further to our communication regarding the use of ground screws, we can provide the below list of requirements for application submissions proposing the use of Ground Screws.

In order for a submission to adequately demonstrate compliance with the Building Regulations, the following is required:

1.    Pre-installation ground investigation and report

2.    Ground Screw structural design by a chartered engineer.

3.    Scheme to be assessed with no adverse comments raised by Stroma Engineers

4.     BBA certification for the Ground Screw and its installation and testing.

5.    Post installation testing as set out by the BBA certification, but usually consisting of compression testing, lateral load testing and pull-out tests. Site torque testing in itself is not a sufficient demonstration of adequacy.  Site testing is a requirement of the BBA certificate, the method of testing and the number of piles to be tested as set out by the BBA.

If you have any ongoing projects with Stroma Building Control that are not complete and are using ground screws that have not been approved by our Structural Engineers, or if you have any general questions, please contact us as soon as possible.

Thank you.
